Xero is one of the most prominent accounting software solutions in the UK, thanks in part to a sizeable marketing push. It’s also one of the most fully-featured packages on the market, and it could be a great choice whether you’re a freelancer or running a small or growing business.
Xero offers plans starting at £10 per month. It’s available in browser and through a mobile app and, in fact, that app is one of Xero’s great strengths. It’s a pared-down version of the full browser experience, and it offers a very intuitive receipt scanning and logging function, allowing you to keep track of expenses on the go. You can also manage multiple organisations from the app, which is handy if you’re running more than one business.
It’s fair to say that Xero’s browser interface isn’t the most attractive of the options currently on the market. However, once you get used to the slightly sparse layout, you’ll find a series of powerful tools. Expense tracking and payroll are both available, along with a large number of useful reports. It also offers multi-currency support, which is a must-have for many businesses.
Xero doesn’t currently include time-tracking or cashflow forecasting tools. However, the platform integrates fairly seamlessly with hundreds of third-party apps, so you can add many additional functions with just a few clicks.
